ABOUT MISS MITOCHONDRIA
As someone who has always been curious about science, specifically, the study of medicine and molecular biology, I am excited to share with you a passion project of mine to advocate for young girls and under-resourced communities who may have more difficulty seeking the opportunity to explore various topics of STEAM in depth. Knowing that there may be a shortage of doctors in upcoming years, it is necessary that STEAM becomes a more prevalent field of work for this generation. Especially for young girls, the importance for them to envelop themselves in an environment without being criticized for their own curiosity or hesitant to make their own decisions is a persisting necessity. With Miss Mitochondria Empowerment Kits, young girls are able to explore unique concepts of molecular biology in an interactive way.
MY MISSION
To expose young girls and under-resourced communities to biology in an interactive, creative way and ultimately empower and amplify their voices in hopes for a future with increased participation in STEAM.
THE KITS
Empowerment Kits
My Empowerment Kits teach young girls about various scientific topics through hands-on creation. Each kit would include a portion of colorful clay, pipe cleaners, vibrant beads, as well as an instruction manual (that walks the girls through the steps of creating their own, individualized art piece) and a short poem regarding such topic that would provide a profound insight into the STEAM lens.
In these kits, there is a creative element (that is, using clay to design various cellular structures), and an educational element (that includes the various poems) inspired to empower young girls and under-resourced communities to find their voices and advocate for a future in STEAM.
